Kate Almighty

A couple of weeks back I was invited by my friend Lorena Vilanova a blogger and a journalist behind   The Stylistbook blog to visit a designer Pop Up at   The Secret Room in Barcelona. A designer we went to see was a charming Sasha Budnik - designer and illustrator behind the brand   Vasya.

The Secret Room is very special place in Barcelona which combines beauty, art, fashion and leisure. On a regular day this venue is a full time hair studio and soon to be beauty studio as well, but it's also equipped with a bar, a gorgeous terrace and DJ booth. The  Secret Room is a place where you can enjoy variety of events, art expositions, tastings, culinary workshops and fashion showrooms. One can also rent a venue for private event.

Venue is beautifully and tastefully decorated with a unique mix of vintage and modern pieces and has a very friendly staff and management team and it's located in very center of Barcelona at Passeo de Gracia.

The fashion Pop Up we came to see was a full day event organized on a gorgeous sunny day. The event featured five fashion, accessory and jewelry designer but there was also a sitting bags designer, cook and a florist.

Slow Fashion In addition to groundbreaking runway creations, derived from the sweet elegance and superior style of European artisanship, the VASYA collections follow the concept of Slow Fashion.

THE CONCEPT OF SLOW FASHION
Slow fashion, like ¨slow food¨, ¨slow travel¨, or even the ¨slow career¨ which are seen as alternatives to better health and economy in all areas, is an epiphany for fashionistas with waning disposable incomes and a need to have instant remarkable style that will last, and last and last… VASYA by incorporating a long term unique looks has created separate collections for the every-day chic woman to take her beloved accessories and fashions to the next level, by catering them and making them accessible for today’s trends and tomorrows.

SASHA BUDNIK, fashion designer
VASYA by Sasha Budnik Sasha Budnik is a Fashion Designer and Illustrator, and the creator of VASYA designs. After obtaining a degree in the Fine Arts University (Minsk, Belarus) in 2006 and presenting her first collection in 2003 in Belarus, she established herself in the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, where she continued her studies at the Instituto Europeo di Design. She is currently teaching in IED and working on her new collections.

“I dedicate my work to bringing out the different “characters” in women – women with personality confidence and a strong sense of self, spirituality and their existence. The most genuine and creative personal style is created not only by a constant developing of trends, but also by individuality.”

Sasha Budnik, fashion designer

Similarly to Croatian designer Kate Almighty, Sasha's signature dresses have open back, usually deep-V cut back cleavage. Although Sasha doesn't produce her collection in large production facilities, in fact all of her items are unique, not more then one piece is produced per style and she uses luxurious fabrics such as silk and lace, her clothing is still quite affordable for a regular women.

At the Pop Up shop I tried this gorgeous floral crop top but it was just a bit to tight on the shoulders, I am 6'1'' after all. :) My other favorite items of her I liked were of course the backless dresses and another black button up sheer cropped short sleeve sweater which I photographed bellow.

What are your favorite 'secret' gem places in Barcelona? Please do share in comment.
I live in Barcelona for some time now but every week I continue to discover new fabulous place to eat, shop and enjoy!

The longer I live in Barcelona the more it grows on me and I don't want to go to live anywhere else!
In the last few weeks by boyfriend and I made a conscious effort to walk around the city whenever we find an hour to spare to find and explore all of it's corners, best restaurants and beautiful parks.

Just a few weeks earlier I got beautiful pair of black  Cortina Ankle Leather Booties (produced in Spain) from  Free People. They are made out of beautiful delicately embroidered soft leather. I broke them in and now they are amazingly comfortable with very small heel so I literary wear them every single day with both dressy and casual outfits.

For today's pre-Christmas outfit perfect for running errands and doing some last minute shopping I paired my  Cortina Ankle Booties with fabulous Kate Almighty coat, Salsa high rise DIY skinny distressed jeans and Topshop scarf and sweater.

Are you done with your holiday gift shopping and have hands covered with flour and sugar while making cookies like I am?  :)

If you are a die-hard fashionista or just like to stay in touch with latest fashion news and trends you are probably following a fair number of fashion websites, portals and blogs. One of my favorite Croatian fashion portal and the only one I have been following since I was still living in NYC is www.moda.hr.

Moda.hr supports and promotes Croatian fashion design and has been doing this much before it was mainstream. You might remember some of their previous seasonal lookbooks I posted about, with my favorite being "Abused Mommy" and "Croatian fashion designers SS 2013. lookbook".

The advantage for many young designers is that with this lookbook shoot which they pay to participate in they get not only media exposure but also a skilled team of professionals who knows both local media environment, local shopper needs but also how to present young designer work in the best possible way.

Spring/Summer 2014. lookbook was shot with record number of 26 Croatian designers in participation.
Looks shot varied from evening gowns to day wear and all pieces are easily wearable across seasons.

'' Eight seasons ago when we enthusiastically launched first Lookbook of Croatian fashion designers, which by now became a tradition project of www.moda.hr portal, I couldn't even dream that just a few years later we will be able to interest so many designers to join the project. It is a really rewarding to know that project with primary goal of promoting Croatian fashion design will be equally loved and well accepted by both designers and our portal readers."

Lucija Biondic, editor in chief of Moda.hr portal

On top of being known by launching Croatian fashion designers from a hobby or a beginner designer to successful local brand, moda.hr team is known by having a good nose for choosing talented young models.

Even though moda.hr team naturally became skeptical about slow growing local media and business which doesn't really sees the value and real potential in online fashion media, thus doesn't invest in advertising much, they still continue to work and enthusiastically support young fashion design scene in Croatia helping them with business development and media training which is far beyond their call of duty.

Without further due, please see below selected pieces their eight lookbook for seasons Spring/Summer 2014. You may see the full lookbook here.

Which fashion portals do you read the most often and why?

This weekend (19th & 20th July) and next weekend (26th & 27th July) in my capacity as Trendcy curator and buyer I helped organize Sample Sale and Pop-Up Shop for selected Trendcy designers among which are young and talented designers like Kralj & Krajina  from Zagreb and Vjera Vilicnik  from London but also established designers like Kate Almighty  and Hippy Garden  from Croatia and  The Wandering Collective from Spain.

I am in love with Vjera Vilićnik's gorgeous lace tops and silk dresses with couture embroidery! Check out this wonderful floral dress I tried (one more left UK size 10 so send message to Trendcy if you want to grab the last pair).

Another personal favorite are definitely Kralj & Krajina Fall/Winter 14'. collection dresses, turtlenecks and vests! They are super warm and comfortable (and short but I love it) with military details on the shoulders and all in white, nude and camel. I think they go perfectly with Valentina Brugnatelli's   amazing costume jewelry!

Shop Kralj & Krajina's Fall/Winter 14' collection   here.

One of the most popular items on Sample Sale here in Dubrovnik was most definitely dresses by Kate Almighty who designed wonderful cotton dresses with low cut back with lace details.

Not only these are super comfortable and can be worn with or without a bra but you can wear them belted and as a dress in Summer and tunic in Fall and Winter, on top, they are super affordable, this blue one is only 40 Euro or 300 HRK.

Join Trendcy Sample Sale  and shop designer items on discounted prices via e-mail  or if close to Dubrovnik visit us at Sebastian art gallery.
