It's 2:20 am and Anabela is sleeping (which is not always the case at this time) so I decided to make Italian sausage ragu just because! :)

Just kidding...not about making of the Italian sausage ragu part but about just because part. My boyfriend is flying in late from his game in Belgrade so I made him a full dinner with protein rich salad, ragu with polenta as the main dish and desert and all. It wouldn't be fair to have him eat a sandwich after the long and late trip.

Off I go to share the recipe, it's quite simple actually, when I make it for myself I make it with red wine while tonight I made it 'healthy way for an athlete' with home made chicken stock.

1/2 of a big onion finely chopped
1 big clove of garlic
1 tbsp olive oil
6 mid size Italian sausages
1.5 tbsp of fresh rosemary leaves
1 cup (cc 250ml) of red wine or chicken stock
Instant polenta
1 tbsp of tomato paste
400g chopped cherry tomatoes (you can use a can of pellati tomatoes as well)
grated parmesan cheese
salt & pepper to taste

Optional: mushrooms

If you are using cooked sausages you don't need to bake them, I used fresh ones and I baked them before preparing as part of the recipe.

Heat the oven on 200C. Coat the baking pan with aluminum foil (for easy cleaning) spread sausages evenly over the pan and bake for 20-30 min. Let cool a bit, slice and prepare as per recipe bellow.

1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Cook onion until softened and gold in color. Add the sausage slices in pieces, garlic and cook for about 5 minutes until the sausage is browned and all well combined. If you are using mushrooms add them now, cook with steering until mushrooms are softened.

2. Add wine/chicken stock and cook for a few minutes until liquid is slightly reduced. Add tomato paste and stir for a bit, then stir in tomatoes. Add spices, salt and pepper to taste.  Increase the heat to high and bring to the boil. When it bubbles Reduce to low and simmer for 15 minutes until liquid is reduced and you reach desired thickness of the ragu sauce.

3. Meanwhile, cook polenta according to packet instructions (I got instant 1min polenta.  Add grated cheese, serve topped with the sausage ragu, parmesan cheese and topped with rest of the rosemary.

I served it with salad.
Bon appetite!

All Fall/Winter 16' Collection photos by Sime Eskinja

Fall/Winter 16' is one of my favorite Envy Room collections thus far. I love the embroidery and lace mixture with touches of metallic, leopard and pussy bow. The perfect mix of Victorian and 70's influences I would dare to say with couture elements which are most definitely wearable as a ready-to-wear.  I want to say the collection is Dolce & Gabanish (without suggesting copying as Envy Room designers did similar motifs seasons ago themselves) but with more urban, down to earth and Envy Roomish, romantic kind of way.

What I like about this brand is that old the pieces are immaculately made out of luxurious fabrications while still manageably priced. Also, these pieces are not something you will wear only one season for sure if well kept, you can certainly hand it down to your daughters.

The handbag collection consists of mini bags with embroidered leather guitar strap.

Envy Room Spring/Summer 2017 collection is reminiscent of retro age with a recognizable touch of glamour and gentle elegance. The designers stayed true to their signature romantic sexy-peal with flowy shapes, ruffles and sheer fabric patches on shoulders and ankles, as in other collections we could have seen fitted jumpsuits equally suitable for office and red carpet wear.

The news we have seen in this collection was mixing street-style elements like embellished ruffle hoodies with evening-wear pieces. Also, we could have seen pop of neon colors for both day and evening wear with playful semi-sheer one shoulder 80's inspired dresses and tops.

I particularly like dramatic high neck embellished collars and lace midi pencil skirts over white ruffle top which all together make very futuristic look with elements of old time glamour.

Pussy bow here, pussy bow there, pussy bow everywhere! Pussy bow was trending far before Melania Trump wore it as a semi-political statement. Full name of this neck tie would be pussycat bow and it has a British language origin.

pussycat bow
noun: pussy bow
  1. a large, soft, floppy bow at the neck of a woman's blouse.
"her somewhat formal style became more flamboyant, often featuring pearls and pussycat bows"

My favorite Croatian designer pussy bow piece is blackpearl by Sarah Lončarić blouse which I recently ordered. Sara also had oversized gypsy sleeves in her collection way before currently popular Mango shirt brought it into limelight.

Envy Room is a luxurious fashion brand known by it's wedding dresses. They have shown their romantic and feminine touch with very light and preety pussy bow tops and jumpsuits in their Fall 16/17 collection.

On top of rather obvious 'schoolgirl' pussy bow look where you wear pussy bow shirt in black and white with a-line mini skirt, there are so many ways to wear a pussy bow top. You can wear it with high waist wide pants and a hat (70s style), you might wear wide pussy bow blouse with stilletoes and cigarette pants or pencil skirt for work and later with flats and leather jacket as part of afterwork more casual look.

I also like to wear it with a bow backwards on the back.

Here are some street-style inspirations:

Soup just like a coffee or tea can be called a hug in a cup on a cold, rainy Fall day such as today in Barcelona. My favorite kind of soup is the one that is simple to make, delicious, nutritious and keeps well in the fridge so we can eat it over a few days period.

Since I have a baby now, little to no time to cook and work and definitely cannot afford to get sick, I started planning our meals a day ahead and I make sure they are loaded with vegetables. Since my boyfriend is not a huge fan of veggies I 'hide' them by blending them in a soup.

Cream of Zucchini Soup

This recipe only requires 5 simple ingredients, it takes less then half an hour to make and it's deliciously healthy! Bellow listed ingredients quantity can serve up to 4 people.

3 medium zucchini
1 half of small onion
1L / 32 oz chicken or vegetable broth
2 garlic cloves
2 tbsp of sour cream
salt & pepper to taste
grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Combine quarter zucchini chunks, garlic cloves cut to half, onion half cut in quarters and vegetable or chicken broth in a pot and bring to boil over medium heat. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes. Add sour cream and mix in a blender until you get puree consisency. Add salt & pepper to taste. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese or add homemade bread croutons (recipe bellow).

Cream of Pea Soup

This soup is also great for kids and babies 1 year and older. My boyfriend also loves it, it's super light and tastes great!

1 tbsp of butter or olive oil
10 oz \ 283g of baby peas
1 cup of chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup of light evaporated milk
2 tbsp of flour
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp of all spice (or Croatian spice Vegeta)
salt & pepper to taste

In a non-stick pot heat butter over medium heat. Add seasoning, chicken or vegetables broth, baby peas and spices and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and shimmer for another 5 minutes or so (peas need to be soft but not overcooked. Poor milk and flour into a blender, blend for 1 minute or until smooth and well combined. Poor milk mixture gently into a soup mixture, stir and bring to a boil cooking for about 1 minute.

Pumpkin Soup

Pumpkin soup has stronger taste then pea or zucchini soup. For me this soup makes a full meal. If you enjoy a unique taste of pumpkin you will definitely love it! This soup also takes much longer to cook 1.5 hour aprox (30 minutes to make pure and another hour to finish a soup).

4 cups of pumpkin pure
6 cups of chicken broth
1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
1 cup chopped onion
0.5 tsp of thyme
1 garlic clove minced
0.5 cup of heavy whipping cream
5 black peppercorns
1.5 tsp of salt (or to taste)

Prepare pumpkin pure: preheat oven to 325 F/ 165C. Cut the pumpkin in half and clean out the seeds and pulp. Cover each half with foil. Bake for 1 hour or until tender. Scrape out pumpkin meat and pure in blender.

Heat chicken stock, pumpkin pure, onion, thyme, garlic and peppercorn in a pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce to low heat and shimmer for half an hour uncovered.

Pure the soup little by little (not the whole pot at the time) in a blender.

Return to a pot, bring to boil and then shimmer for another 30 minutes over low heat. Stir in heavy cream and serve with chopped fresh parsley.

Perfect Soup Accessory - Bread Croutons

Make your own bread croutons for soup:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F /175 C. Brush bread on both sides with melted butter or olive oil and spice mixture (I use Italian spices and sea salt). Cut bread slices up into very small cubes. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and toasted. Let cool. Store croutons in a covered container or a zip lock bag.

Enjoy a hug in a cup, home made Fall soup!
Bon appetite!

This season's coat theme is 'go big or go home.' This season's coat will take you from morning to night and show all it's glory! The bigger the better! The texture, silhouette, embroidery...make it shine! The seasonal length is most definitely midi, from dresses, skirts to of course - coats!

How to wear it? Let one side drop off your shoulder when going out to party with fitted sleeveless turtleneck dress and knee high boots.

Since I moved to Barcelona I never really purchased a coat up to this year when I got a fun thin camouflage print rain coat with beautiful pink peonies (to be featured soon in one of my Insta snaps).

Recently I did a DIY project embellishing denim jacket for me and denim overalls for Anabela with fun iron-on patches. I really love gorgeously embroidered midi coats which reminisce of 70's and will certainly add a feminine note to your office look. You don't necessarily buy a high end embroidered coat, you can just purchase a beautiful floral patch and saw it or iron it on your old raincoat or thin fall jacket.

Faux fur coats are equal part feminine and glam. You can easily style one with fancy sweats and metallic sneakers or with a night gown.

My favorite faux fur coats are in seasonal blush pink and emerald green colors. If you wanna go flashy go for a star print fur like this fabulous Gucci piece.

The vinyl leather trench coat is a classic Parisian look that is certain to add a touch of sex appeal to any outfit.

Sexy and water resistant! :) Vinyl has a shine and sex appeal going for it in a cat-women costume kind of way although on it's own it doesn't make an awfully warm coat unless it's vinyl leather or fur padded.

I do own a vinyl sheer rain coat with black piping and I got to say it's super sturdy and hard to move in and although impractical it does look chic on photos :)

Padded jackets are not reserved for sportswear any longer. Go big or go home truly applies here! The puffier the better! Personally I am not a fan of this volume and since I live in mostly warm Barcelona I really do not have the need for a big warm jacket but I managed to find fabulous pieces.

Shop padded jackets:

Always elegant, chic and minimalistic, white coat might require more money invested in dry cleaning but it's a chic and elegant choice for a lady who doesn't live in particularly snowy or rainy town otherwise keeping it clean when worn often might be rather big challenge especially if you are using a public transport.

Are you on the market for a new coat this season?
What's your fav?

I know this is not sweet and peachy topic to digest with your morning coffee but as a wave of conservatism is taking over the world (or how I like to call it fear and prejudice) as a response to fear of terorism and waves of refugees sweeping in, I think it's so important that WE, WOMEN try to LISTEN, UNDERSTAND, EMPATHIZE, VOICE our opinion and ACT on this important topic - women's reproductive rights.

Yes, I know, who would think this would even be a question in 21ct Europe right?

"Women are not an interest group. They are mothers, and daughters, and sisters, and wives. They are half of this country and they are perfectly capable of making their own healthy decisions."
Barack Obama

Today on October 3rd Polish women prepared a massive warning strike under the slogan "Black Monday" against legislation strengthening the national ban on abortion.

The women who took part in this strike refused to go to work, schools, universities and left their housework at home, they marched through the streets wearing black as a sign of mourning for their reproductive rights.

This strike is just a continuation of the “Black Protest", a massive reaction to the government's latest plan to further radicalize the anti-abortion law by including things like a five-year prison terms for both women abortion patients, including rape victims and doctors (3 years prison term). It goes as far as recommending an investigations and/or prison for women who had miscarriages.

"Even by conservative estimates there are far more illegal abortions than legal ones in Poland - between 10,000 and 150,000, compared to about 1,000 or 2,000 legal terminations." - source BBC

If this law goes through it will make Poland's abortion laws as restrictive as those in two other countries in Europe: Malta and the Vatican.

I really don't remember a time in history when all the 'smart' men in suits got together and said hmmm...we really think men are not allowed to masturbate, imagine how many potential babies they just flushed down the toilet???? Right?

No matter if you are pro-choice or rather would prefer laws to regulate what women should do once she gets pregnant and what her purpose on earth really is, you must admit that this debate in it's core is truly a religious debate and a religion should really have no common ground with female reproductive health.

Last time religion and politics mixed, they were burning people were burned at the stake, so let's not do that shall we?

"Just because I am pro-choice it doesn't mean I am pro-abortion. It means I understand that your choice is none of my business and I will always fight for your right to choose."

Here is a thought!

Why don't we just act like decent human beings for a change?

If you believe abortion is a sin and it's wrong - just don't have one.

Instead of investing into lobbying for reducing female reproductive rights for future generations, why wouldn't we redirect the funds and energy into make sexual education and protection widely available to young people through schools and universities health centers to avoid women having to to make a hard choice like having an abortion?

If you would like to show solidarity with Polish women you can do so by joining their protest online (using #blackmonday , #blackprotest, #czarnyprotest) or offline by taking part in organized protest actions in front of Polish embassy in your country.
