Those who know me will know that I don't wear flats very often, especially not during the part of the month when I stay at Barcelona (although I am quite tall 6'1'' my boyfriend is 7'1'') as there I work from home and most of the times I go out, I take the car so I can always wear heels.

Before when I lived in New York or now for the part of the month when I stay in Budapest I carry one pair of flats in my bag and one pair of heels with me during the work week, especially when taking subway and having meatings outside of the office and then I put on the heels in the office when I arrive.

Still, for the time I do wear flats, I want them to be fabulous, so for this post I selected my very favorite ballerinas and loafers for this season. Couple of these I already have and some are on my wish list, the leopard pair of Torry Burch flats I am planning to get next week when I am traveling to London, I had black pair of the same model for three full years in NY and they are really comfortable, soft and last long, I wore them quite often!

I will also look for pink or burgundy pair of Valentino Red rubber flats with a cute bow, these will be perfect for keeping my feet fabulous during refreshing Summer showers.

I order all of my shoes and all of the models from pics bellow are available on LuisaViaRoma website, they have a free shipping, great customer service and deliver quite fast, so far I have a great experience shopping with them.

Did you already got your first pair of Spring flats? There is a plenty of them in the stores but from my personal experience, the trick is to find a pair which are not to stiff, are made of leather at least as in warm weather our feet swear more, so leather ones you will be able to wear barefoot as well and most importantly that they are sturdy enough. There are way to many poor quality cloth flats which you need to replace after a month so choose smartly and carefully! :)

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.”
 Mahatma Gandhi

This week is Earth Week and everyone is trying to be a bit more mindful on how they use energy, throw their trash and consume daily consumer goods. Media is bombarding us with tips and tricks which I think are good to put on a pin board somewhere in the apartment or in the office as a reminder for the rest of the year as well.

A couple of things I do to care about environment more and my body as well is to walk wherever I can without using a car or any other mean of transportation, I bring water in my purse everywhere in my equa thin glass water bottle, recycle my trash and plant my own spices, I also bring my fashionable canvas Karl Lagerfeld bag with me in my purse for whenever I plan to do a grocery shopping after work.
I selected a couple of ways fashion industry gives back.

GIVING BACK TO COMMUNITY

Fashion industry is known to be not just very creative but also actionable and generous when giving back, and doing so in organized and transparent matter.

I know that every time you walk down the street someone is asking you to donate, sign or commit to a charity cause. My way of thinking about it and choosing if I will engage is that it is equally important to investigate and truly personally believe in the cause, to make sure that if you are donating your time or money it is for the cause you are passionate about and believe it.

“I am excited to see so many of my friends and CFDA designers use these hearts as a blank canvas for their unique creative expression to raise money. Together, we believe in the brilliant artistry of a country filled with some of the most creative people I have ever met.”

Donna Karan

One of my favorite recent projects are Donna Karen and CFDA project initiated on Valentines day and still ongoing called Fashion for Heiti: One Million Hearts. Over 160 fashion designers participated in this project by decorating custom papier-mache hearts which are now auctioned off on Ebay.com until May 2nd to raise money for Donna Karen's Urban Zero foundation dedicated to creating jobs and enhancing education of Haiti’s artisans.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Consumerism and constant need for shopping is creating a demand for mass production, which includes mass resource extraction, fabrication, distribution, and eventually, disposal. This system is not at all sustainable and it creates a bit amounts of waste in energy and products.

Have you ever wondered what upcycled clothing is? After listening to CFDA Earth Day Google + chat  I started to investigate more about it. Upcycled clothing is the green, environmentally and socially conscious side to the fashion industry which is sweeping the youth generation of today, you could notice on Ebay that some clothes are marked as upcycled clothes. To upcycle clothes simply means to redesign, rework, and recreate clothing pieces that would have otherwise been thrown away.

Some of the negative consequences of factory-made, mass-produced, or  even worse sweatshop made clothing include the need for it to be made long distances away (where workforce is cheap) the lack of sustainability and temptation to always buy more (aka our consumerism), and the ignorance that occurs when we buy a product and have no idea where, or how, it is made.
Great examples of this practice after a number of complaints for unsustainable practices is H&M with their Garden collection launched in 2010. and then Conscious collection a year later. Also, TopShop has launches their Reclaim to wear collection made out of upcycled materials.

"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well,
if one has not dined well."
Virgina Woolf

As you might have noticed from a number of my previous posts and especially my Instagram images I have started to invest more of my time and energy into not only cooking but cooking healthy.

There is a number of reasons behind my decision, on of them is obvious - it's healthy, but I also wanted to make sure with not being really experienced cook to find and follow (before I start experimenting and substituting) good and healthy recipes to make protein rich food for my boyfriend who is a professional athlete and his diet is directly connected to his performance on the court.

“If you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live?”

I am not going to lie, fast approaching bikini season also serves as additional motivator for me to be more mindful of what and how often I eat, but for some time now with my fast and exhausting work pace in several countries and huge multinational companies in last 6 years I haven't took such a good care about my health, I always did exercise but I haven't ate healthy enough or frequently enough nor slept enough, which resulted with fainting a number of times at work and feeling tired all of the time....and I am tired of being tired :)

As I am quite a technologically enabled person :) I store and collect my favorite recipes which I collected from powerful ladies who influenced my life like my grandma, mum, Mrs.Deb and Jenn who's kids I babysat and my best friend Anita in my iPhone and iPad, but also from ladies passionate about healthy cooking on my Pinterest page cooking board.

From our short Facebook discussion I noticed that some of you, my readers also like to mix morning energy smoothies which I absolutely love! When I lived and worked in NYC I was a frequent guest at Jumba Juice, I had their amazing smoothies in the morning for energy and after workouts for recovery.

Today I am sharing with you a couple of cheat sheet for making delicious smoothies which I printed out and put on my fridge to remember what to mix in on those mornings where I am not quite awake yet and wouldn't remember it all. I hope you'll find it useful! :)

"I like Cinderella, I really do. She has a good work ethic.
I appreciate a good, hard-working gal. And she likes shoes."

Amy Adams

There has been a whole lot of buzz in social media and fashion portals about these fierce Fendi shoes from house's SS13 collection, courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. This whole collection was made by hand and the idea behind it was three-dimensionality. One pair of these amazing shoes comes with a set of uppers that will allow you to put together your own pair and combination of colors just like playing with lego blocks. The price of one pair is £595.

I really like how these are made manually from luxurious leathers in beautiful colors but look so 3D, high-tech and modern, designers also thought of most looked for need of 21st fashionistas and that is customisation and individuallity which you surely get by putting together your own pair of Fendi shoes ;)

Here are my favorite designs from this collection:

As you might have noticed I have been posting less frequently in past number of weeks while I was working from Barcelona. I had my regular work week connecting to business trip to Brussels and Easter holidays which I could spend with my boyfriend and my dog Papi working from this beautiful and warm city.

Since the beginning of the year I have built up quite a comprehensive 'to do' list and here I don't mean the list of cliche, general things like start exercising, eat healthy etc. my goals were more simple :)

For example, I wanted to finally replant my kitchen orchids into one big pot (and learn how to do it in a process), replant my balcony tree (which as my friend Anita saids is wearing couple of sizes to small pair of 'shoes' aka its pot is to small) and plant my cooking herbs like mint, basil and rosemary.

Also, I really wanted to take some quality time (not just during plane rides) and learn Spanish more intensively as well as to learn how to cook some new meals.

Finally...during last almost four weeks in Barcelona I made it! Mostly during weekends or when I finished working in decent time and still had some energy left in me, I tried to cook some new meals like: chicken pesto, broccoli cheddar soup, Easter bread, daily vegetable soups and a desert here and there. I have to admit that I am becoming better and better cook and actually started enjoying cooking, I guess it all depends who I cook for.

Most importantly, I straighten my priorities a bit and spent quality time with my two favorite boys - Ante and Papi, we even took afternoon naps together during weekend. Heaven! :)

"I think, with suits and clothes, if you keep them long enough,

they all come back in fashion. " Rod Stewart

Indeed! With my first real salary when I was still in college, first thing I got was a made to measure tailored suit. For me, having perfectly tailored suit was the second most important rule of business I learned attending business school, right after rule #1 which was: never do business with friends and family. Now, 10 years later, with a much more professional experience in big fashion and now consumer goods multinational companies in Connecticut, New York, Zagreb and Budapest I know from practice that both of these rules hold true.

”The clothes and colors we wear have a real impact on the way we feel.

The colour red is associated with confidence and power.”  Dr. Gayle Brewer

In business, especially for young women just entering business world and interviewing for their dream jobs well tailored clothes should be taken as one of the top priorities. As you know, first impression is extremely important and on job interviews, especially for jobs in PR or fashion, the way you present yourself can be a deal maker or breaker.

When it comes to basic business women's wardrobe key pieces worth of investing are certainly good quality trench coat, tailored made suit at least in black and grey but also in red or white color, couple of knee lenght pencil skirts, a couple of silk blouses and cotton mix button ups, cigarette pants and great quality nude and black stilettos. Main thing to look for when it comes to good quality suit are perfect fit which will flatter your body type and good quality fabrication.

This Spring, women's power suits are back in trend, my favorite suite colors for Spring are peach, lemon yellow and floral suits, depending on your budget you can find lovely suits in mainstream stores like Mango, Zara and Topshop.

For inspiration I selected a number of designer suits from Spring 2013. collections.
